11 Sep Accipio Apprentice – Mark Havell – Shortlisted for National Apprenticeship Awards 2021
We are delighted to announce that one of our Level 5 apprentices – Mark Havell from Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) – has been shortlisted for the National Apprenticeship Awards 2021.
Mark Havell CMgr MCMI MIFireE, completed the Master Leadership Development Apprenticeship programme with Accipio, and has worked hard on his leadership acumen, increasing his knowledge in areas unfamiliar to him, learning and demonstrating leadership skills and behaviours that will leave a lasting impact on him, his team and the wider KFRS.
KFRS attends thousands of incidents every year, from fires and water rescues, to road traffic collisions. Whilst managing the day to day running of the station and incidents, Mark was attending workshops, participating in coaching and mentoring sessions with his Leadership Skills Coach, studying the C30 Framework from self-awareness, personal effectiveness and managing projects and submitting assessments to build up his leadership portfolio. Mark worked through the C30 Framework with over 250 eLearning modules, workshops and 100’s of supporting resources and activities, designed and curated specifically around the Operations/Department Manager Apprenticeship Standard. Through this mix of learning and doing, Mark developed his knowledge, grew his skillset and demonstrated his leadership skills and behaviours, whilst also playing a vital role during the pandemic.
Mark worked on some large projects, spearheaded new initiatives and helped to create various changes within the Fire Service, supported by his employer, peers and the teams around him.
Mark is a Cluster Station Manager and credits his apprenticeship learning to securing a secondment to Her Majesty’s Chief Fire Inspector (HMCFI). Mark achieved a Distinction at End Point Assessment, successfully qualifying him with an Level 5 Diploma for Leaders and Managers, along with Chartered Manager Status, through our Strategic EPA Partner the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). Mark achieved a score of 82 in his EPA, with five Distinctions across all of his End Point Assessments, setting a high standard and benchmark for those who follow him on their leadership apprenticeship.
Mark had this to say about his apprenticeship with Accipio:
“The Leadership and Management apprenticeship has given me the opportunity reinforce my leadership knowledge as well as learn new leadership skills to make me an effective leader, support my team through change and deliver an outstanding service to the people of Kent.
My Leadership Skills Coach, Wendy has been brilliant, she was flexible, skilled and always available to talk through my thinking and how I will use my skills to impact continuous improvement for Kent Fire and Rescue service.
I would highly recommend the apprenticeship route as a real way to develop leadership and management skills. Completing the apprenticeship provided me with a different option to the university route. It has also given me the professional accreditation of being a Chartered Manager with the CMI, through completing my End Point Assessment.”
