The Challenge

The UKHSA needed a platform that could help them to deliver the UK Field Epidemiology Programme (UKFETP). This is a 2-year programme dedicated to providing the training and experience required for medical, nursing, scientific or veterinary staff whose careers may, or do, involved field investigation and epidemiology. Though much of the training for the programme is delivered on-the-job, they needed a modern platform to support this learning through high-quality e-Learning modules.

What we did

We rapidly created FELIX- the Field Epidemiology Learning Interactive eXperience, an LMS on the latest version of Moodle for 500 users. This included the bespoke development of the Incremental Progress Report (IPR) tool. This, combined with the Accipio Qualifications plugins, allows for the tracking of research towards a custom 'standard' defined by the UKFETP.

The site also provides:

  • A wide variety of modules and materials;
  • Support in assessing their progress towards a framework;
  • A repository for significant documents and forms;
  • Built-in export of all progress for reporting functionality; and
  • Pages available to the alumni community, masterclasses and training with partners.

The results

We swiftly provided a modern and efficient platform that directly caters to their learning needs. It is a flexible, pluggable and open-source platform that provides the high quality e-Learning required to provide the UKFETP. The bespoke IPR tool allows for RAG rating of learners in their various categories of assessment and, consequently, for top-level reporting.
